Last year, for the first time in the history of the race, the rider wearing the yellow jersey at the Tour de France was Mauritian, a woman from Curepipe. And right now, she is once again representing Mauritius during the Tour de France Femmes.
Kim Le Court-Pienaar is the first Mauritian, man or woman, to race at the very top of professional cycling, and in 2025 she became the first African woman ever to win one of the sport's five Monuments (which, in cycling terms, is somewhat the equivalent of winning a Grand Slam). A few months later she wore the yellow jersey at the Tour de France Femmes and went on to win a stage outright, another first for the continent. She did all of this coming from an island that has little in the way of an established, professional cycling tradition, and she did it after thinking she was no longer at the peak of her abilities.
We are hosting a Bridge Moris Live Diaspora Spotlight with Kim, a live conversation about the long and improbable road that brought her here. We will catch her right after the Tour de France Femmes 2026 and talk about that experience, but also the years when it very nearly did not happen, about what it actually costs to chase something this big from a small island and far from the people you love, and about what it means to carry Mauritius with you wherever in the world you end up.
